Director's statement:
Brief Space of a Time depicts the daily life of my aunt and uncle, Mireya and Emardo, an indigenous Mapuche couple exercising their right to live in their ancestral land according to their own terms. This film exists as part of my autoethnographic body of work, one where I explore my roots, the communities I belong to, and the way they respond to modern-day issues. Particularly, I think of this piece as a rejection of the mainstream Chilean media’s representation of the Mapuche people, which often entails a narrative of violence used by the state as an excuse to militarize and fracture their territory. By focusing on the small details of my aunt and uncle's daily routine, I aim to create a portrait that is truthful to their peaceful rhythms and ways of living, exploring the politics behind the quotidian.
